We want to make closing a current account with Lloyds Bank as easy as possible.
However, before you close your account, you may want to see what other accounts we have. Browse our range of current accounts to see if there’s one that better suits your needs.
We're by your side to help you deal with some of the money related matters when someone has died, including closing a current account.
Please visit our bereavement page to understand what you need to do to close an account of someone who has died.
After processing your current account closure, we will write to you via post or email to confirm the closure.
You will need to destroy any debit cards you have for that account. You will no longer be able to withdraw or deposit money into the account.
If you use the Current Account Switch Service, any Direct Debits & standing orders set up on your old account will be transferred to your new account. Any payments made to your old account will automatically be redirected to your new account. We'll also contact the sender with your new account details.
If you don't use the Current Account Switch Service, you will need to update any payment details yourself. Learn how to amend or cancel a standing order here and how to amend or cancel a Direct Debit here.
Please be aware that once we close your account, we can't reopen it.
We can give you access to copy statements (your transaction history) after you have closed your account. We can do this at any time for the following five years.
If you still have access to our Mobile Banking app or Internet Banking through having another open account, you can continue to view electronic copies of your transaction history on your closed account through your Digital Inbox.
If you’re closing a current account, we will also give you your transaction history (at no cost) covering up to five years before you closed the account, unless you choose not to receive it then.
Please call us to speak to one of our assistants. Lines are open 8am - 8pm, seven days a week. You can also visit one of our branches, and one of our helpful colleagues will be happy to help.

There is no charge for closing your Club Lloyds account. However, while your account is open, there is a £3 monthly account fee, unless you pay £2,000 or more into your Club Lloyds account each month, in which case that fee will then be waived the following calendar month. If you close your account after the last month’s fee calculation, there will be no additional fee to pay.
If you close your Club Lloyds account, you will no longer be eligible for the account’s Lifestyle Benefits. Any benefits will be cancelled from the date you close your account.
There is no charge for converting or closing your account but you’ll pay the monthly fee for the time the account has been open. Your final account fee will be proportionate to the number of days from the last fee debit day to the date of closure or account change.
When you close your account, the insurance benefits that come with the account will end straight away, except for any upgrades purchased for breakdown cover directly through the AA.
If you close a packaged bank account that has Club, you’ll no longer be eligible for the Lifestyle Benefit that comes with the account. The benefit you have selected will be cancelled from the date you close your account.
It's normal that closing a bank account could have an effect on your credit score. This is because the closure of the account will be updated on your credit profile. How much it impacts your score depends on various factors. These include the age of the account and whether it has an arranged overdraft. How you used the account and if you made payments on time may also have an effect.
Any change in your credit score due to closing an account will usually only be temporary.
