Instant-access savings accounts

Make the most of your money without locking it away with an instant-access savings account. Earn interest on your savings and withdraw money when you need to.

What is an instant-access savings account?

An instant or easy access savings account is also known as a flexible savings account. This account can help you to earn variable interest on your savings, without locking your money away for a fixed term.

For this level of flexibility, you're likely to earn a lower rate of interest compared to a fixed-rate account. Each withdrawal may affect the interest given.

Let’s look at the details

  • How much you keep in your instant-access savings account is up to you. The more you keep in your account, the more earning potential you could have through interest.

Some accounts may have restrictions on the amount you can save. Be sure to check the terms of the account.

  • Interest rates tend to be variable on an instant-access savings account. So the rate can go up or down over the year. It is based on the wider economy and the Bank of England base rate.

You may find that certain easy access savers have a higher interest rate compared to others. These may be subject to other conditions – such as being a Club Lloyds customer.

  • Yes, deposits of up to £85,000 are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

  • You can access your money whenever you need it without any fees or charges. This is useful if you need your savings in an emergency.

  • Terms defined

    Annual equivalent rate (AER)

Helps you to understand how much interest you would earn from your savings over the course of a year. The percentage figure is also useful when comparing savings accounts. This accounts for compound interest. That's interest earned on top of any interest you've already been paid, which forms part of your total savings balance.

    Tax-free

This means you don't pay any UK tax on the interest you earn.

    Gross

This means that we have not deducted tax automatically from your interest. Depending on your personal circumstances, you may need to pay tax on the interest you’ve earned. It’s your responsibility to pay any tax you may owe to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Depending on your circumstances, you may have access to:

If parents gift money to their children that generates over £100 of gross interest, they are liable for the tax. This depends on the allowances available to them.
