Why compare home insurance?

The right home insurance can help you feel safe and secure. Switching provider could help you find the cover that’s best for you.

Here’s some simple tips when you’re comparing home insurance:

Check your current home insurance policy

If you already have home insurance, you should check your policy documents to see that everything on your existing policy still covers your needs.

Things may have changed since you first took out insurance. For example, you may have added an extra room to your house, or bought more high value items.

If your policy is with us, we can help you alter it at any time. We don’t charge an admin fee for this.

What type of policy do you need?

Buildings insurance. This covers the structure of your home and its fixtures and fittings.

Contents insurance. This covers your personal items while they are inside your home.

You can take out a combined policy to be covered for both.

If you own and live in your home, a combined policy may be best for you. If you rent your home, you’ll only need contents insurance.

What extra cover are you looking for?

Home Insurance Select offers offer three levels of cover to choose from – Bronze, Silver and Gold.

You should think about which extras are important to you when you're choosing the type of cover that's best for you.

Accidental damage - For damage that happens within the home.  Included only with Home Insurance Select Silver and Gold levels of cover and comes as standard too.

Cover away from the home. Protect your items while you're out of the house. Optional 'Away from home cover' can be added to Bronze, Silver or Gold level of cover of the Home Insurance Select content insurance.

Options available with Home Insurance Select

We offer three levels of cover, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs. We also offer some optional cover for extra peace of mind.

Our contents cover offers:

  • Accidental damage cover. This protects your belongings from physical damage that’s sudden, unexpected and not done on purpose. It's included only with our Silver and Gold cover and comes as standard
  • Away from home cover. This protects the things you have with you when you leave the house, like your phone, watch or bike. It also covers students’ contents up to £5,000. It’s optional on all levels of cover.

Unlike some home insurance providers, we don't ask you to add separate cover for things like bicycles or high value items in the home.

  • Contents in sheds or garages or out in the open are covered as standard with all levels of cover
  • High value items that are worth more than £2,000 are covered if you specify them on your policy
  • Bikes are covered in your home as standard. You can protect them out and about with Away from home cover.

Limits, terms and exclusions apply to all levels of cover.
