    The Foreign currency transaction fee is a fee for currency conversion.

    Other fees, charges and interest may apply. Please refer to your account terms and conditions or see the credit card details or debit card details accordions below for more information.

    These examples assume you allow us to convert the transaction from foreign currency to pounds. If you choose to allow the provider to convert the transaction to pounds, they may make a separate charge for conversion.

    ^For debit card transactions in Euro  within the EEA or UK we won’t charge the foreign currency cash fee of £1.50 or the foreign currency purchase fee of £0.50.

    Transactions in EEA currencies other than euro will be converted to euro first, then pounds sterling.

    Fees for currency conversion

    The comparison above uses the credit card standard Foreign currency transaction fee of 2.95%.

  • The table below lets you know the fees for using a Lloyds Bank debit card to make a payment or withdraw cash in a currency other than pounds, or withdraw cash in pounds outside the UK. Any Euro transaction within the EEA or UK won’t be charged the foreign currency cash fee of £1.50, the foreign cash fee of £1.50, or the foreign currency purchase fee of £0.50.  

    If you ask the cash machine or terminal provider to do the currency conversion we won’t charge the foreign currency purchase fee, the foreign currency transaction fee or the foreign cash fee where you are withdrawing cash in a foreign currency in the UK. The provider of the currency conversion may charge you.

    Description

    This is a fee we charge per transaction when you make a purchase in a foreign currency (not a cash withdrawal or purchase of foreign currency). This fee is applicable only to debit card transactions.  This fee does not apply to debit card purchases in Euro within the EEA or UK, or transactions outside the UK where you choose to pay in pounds and allow the retailer to do the conversion.

    Description

    This is a fee we charge for the withdrawal of foreign currency, and pounds Sterling outside the UK using your debit card. This fee does not apply to the withdrawal of Euro within the EEA or UK.

    This is a fee we charge if you choose to complete your withdrawal of foreign currency, or Pounds sterling outside the UK using the ATM providers conversion rate to pounds. This fee will not apply to withdrawals in Euro within the EEA or UK.

    The ATM provider may make a separate charge for the conversion which will be included in the exchange rate offered to you.

Going abroad soon? You no longer need to tell us

You no longer have to tell us when you are travelling abroad. Our fraud and security systems are always on the lookout for suspicious activity on your accounts meaning you can relax when you are away making going abroad stress free.

Before going abroad

  • Check overseas fees. Silver, Gold, Platinum and Premier current accounts: We won't charge our debit card fees when you use your debit card for these accounts at home or abroad. We also won’t charge these fees in relation to other current accounts you hold, for your selected weeks if you have Travel Smart added to the account.
  • Check your credit card is activated. Our guide on how to activate your card is here.
  • Does your card expire when you are away? If your card is due to expire within 90 days, you can request a replacement card.
  • Turn off Abroad Freeze if you’ve added it to the debit card you plan to use abroad.
  • You can use our app to view your PIN number if you can't remember it.
  • Take another form of payment in case of emergency.
  • Think about setting up a Direct Debit to cover any payments due while you’re away.
  • Ensure your contact details are up to date. We may need to text or call you if we’re concerned there may be fraudulent activity on your account - you can check and update your details online. 
  • If you need to get in touch, contact us. Standard network charges may apply.
  • It may be a good idea to make card payments in local currency and avoid paying the local currency conversion charges.
