Frequently asked questions

  • The main difference between mobile and portable card machines is connectivity. Mobile card readers generally make use of a SIM card to provide connectivity, which is great if you need to take payments away from your business premises, such as at a trade fair. Whereas portable card machines, also known as wireless card machines, generally connect to the broadband on your premises via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, allowing you to take payments throughout your premises – a good option for restaurants & cafes.

  • Portable card readers or machines enable you to take payments where your customers are, in and around your premises. This could be perfect for businesses that offer table service or have an outside space.

  • Yes – our portable card machines are designed to be plug and play and have a built-in battery. Simply connect your machine’s cradle to power, turn on the card machine and follow the on-screen instructions which will guide you through any necessary steps such as connecting to Wi-Fi or changing the default Supervisor PIN.

  • As no two businesses are the same, we will need to work with you to ensure we provide the right service at the right price. Our pricing varies across products and type, so it will depend on factors such as your card turnover, how you want to take payments and the product you eventually choose. You have an opportunity to view a clear breakdown of your rates and charges before you decide so you fully understand what you’re agreeing to before you start.

  • Our portable card machines accept all major credit and debit cards as well as digital wallets, including Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover Global Network and Diners Club International, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

  • Your funds should arrive in your selected business bank account within three to five working days of the transaction taking place, if the settlement is made in sterling. Faster settlement options are available at a small charge.

  • Our terminals come with some form of accessibility for the visually impaired to help your customers complete transactions effortlessly.

Castles Saturn currently has a visually impaired mode on the terminal which guides the cardholder to complete the transaction with voice over instructions. The software has been approved by the RNIB.

The Clover Flex comes with a physical overlay, which can be placed over the touch screen, and acts as a “physical” keypad for the visually impaired. The physical overlay is provided with the Flex, Station and Mini.

The Ingenico Move has tactile markings on its keyboard as well as clear tactile pictograms on the action buttons to help guide your customer to complete their transaction.
