Morgan’s Butchers has served the local community in the ancient market town of Petersfield, Hampshire, for over 50 years. It continues to be a family business, now run by Ryan Morgan.

When their previous bank closed its local branch, Ryan began looking for another financial services provider so he could have all his business banking services under one roof.

A painless setup process

With the business already using Clover Flex Point of Sale (POS) devices to take customer payments, Ryan contacted Ben Jerome, Associate Director (Merchant Services), in the spring of 2024 about Lloyds’ payment services.

“As a result of switching to Lloyds due to wanting a local branch to pay in their cash, they also explored our card payments services, so they had one bank for everything,” Ben says.

After approval of their application, which was done in a matter of hours, Morgan’s received their new Clover Flex devices within two working days. There was no disruption to business as usual or financial reporting.

Much more than a reliable payment solution

One of the biggest benefits of switching to Lloyds is the true next-day settlement of payments. Morgan’s Butchers relies on having a good cash flow position as a business that needs to replenish fresh stock daily.

Having the reassurance that they'll have the proceeds from card payments in their bank account within 24 hours makes it easier to plan purchases and manage outgoings. Clover also has a mobile app allowing business owners to track sales and reports remotely.

“The card machines have made our business much more efficient with cash flow. The following morning all the transactions go into our Lloyds business account. It’s just an easy process,” Ryan affirms.

Cutting card processing costs by 14.2%

Being a Lloyds business customer meant we were able to offer a lower cost compared to Morgan’s Butchers previous provider.

“It’s important to note that any savings will vary from customer to customer. However, in this case, we were able to slice fees for the business by 14.2%,” Ben states. There are plans to open a fruit and vegetable shop next door, and Ben will be supporting the business with payment solutions for this too.

The offering is always evolving, and we have recently rolled out the new Virtual Terminal functionality, allowing businesses to send secure URLs or QR Codes to customers for pay-by-link transactions requesting payment.
