Abel joined Lloyds Banking Group in 2021 after a 25 year career spanning international banking and corporate in a range of strategy, finance and commercial roles. He was most recently Group Treasurer of Rio Tinto, a FTSE 100 mining company, with global responsibility for corporate finance, structured and project finance, global treasury operations, pensions and insurance, and a member of its Finance Leadership Team.
Abel is passionate about business transformation, ESG and the role of technology in unleashing efficiency and growth. He works closely with the bank’s extensive coverage, product and delivery teams, including capital markets, project finance, and ESG.
Abel holds Masters degrees from Toulouse and London Business Schools respectively and a post graduate degree in International Economics and Finance from University Paris Dauphine.

Power & Utilities form a key part of the UK’s critical infrastructure, generating clean power and delivering electricity, gas and water to homes and businesses nationwide via a network of regulated utilities. Our clients are at the heart of the drive to Net Zero whether developing renewable generation in offshore wind and flexible electricity storage, reinforcing the grid to support the switch to electric vehicles, converting existing gas networks to greener hydrogen or conserving, delivering and recycling our water.

This includes revolving facilities, working capital, vanilla and structured trade, term facilities, renewable & project finance and reserve-based lending. In addition, we are the conduit for financial risk management through LBCM in the form of interest rate, FX and commodity risk management enhanced by our capital markets debt advisory team with capability in the UK & USA.
